Dan and I got engaged back in December of 2009. Just over 3 years later, I have finally gotten around to putting our engagement cards into a mini scrapbook. I knew I wanted to do something with our cards and all the little things from our engagement - photos, save the date, newspaper announcement - so I did some research and decided a mini album was the perfect solution. Here's what I started with.
My first step when I scrapbook is to lay out everything I want to use. It helps me to visualize each page when I can see it all in front of me. Then I figure out what background paper will work. I try to match the coloring of my photos and anything else I want to incorporate (mementos, stickers, embellishments) to my background pages to help tie everything together. Once this is done, the pages sort of put themselves together.
For the cover, I took our infamous photo from the night we got engaged, a sticker quote I had on hand, and a little note card and put them together on a bright yellow background. To make the cover a little sturdier, I mounted everything on a piece of heavy manilla cardstock I cut to size. I used the largest card as a guide for the size of the front and back covers.
On the next page, I included our proposal story from the wedding website I created during our planning process. I then added some photos I printed from the Bruins game we went to the night we got engaged. I knew I needed at least one more page of odds and ends, so I cut another piece of manilla cardstock down to size and added an engagement picture, newspaper announcement, and my hubby's "script" when he proposed. I was so in shock that night, I didn't hear a word he said so I asked him to write it down afterwards!
On the next page, I added our engagement party invitation, another photo, and a sticker. The invitation is actually mounted on a letter my parent's received from our State Representative when we got engaged. I kept it folded and only glued down the bottom so it can be opened. I added a tabbed index card as well so the letter is easy to open. I always like a little bit of interactiveness in my scrapbooks.
I added our Save the Date and then got to work hole-punching all our cards. This part was tough on my hands as some of the cards were super thick. Once everything was punched, I pulled it all together. For the back cover, I used the address section of the cardboard box my bestest sent us champagne flutes in all the way from Hawaii. It was already the perfect size and she had addressed it to "The future Mr. and Mrs. Cohen." To hold everything together, I used some bright ribbon from another engagement gift. I knew I kept all this for a reason!
I tied everything together extra tight to ensure nothing would fall out. Here is the finished product.
The best part about this? It was completely free. I used everything I wanted to, but I did put the extra engagement pictures in a little album my sister-in-law got for me. It feels so good to finally have everything all together in a neat little mini book. Now I've caught the mini scrapbook bug and want to do one for our shower and actual wedding cards.
Until then, be well.
