Savings - Year in Review

You may have noticed a little change in the name of the blog.  I realized over time that the blog became more about our house and my decorating style than saving money.  While saving money will always be a priority for me, I think the new name really sums it up.  This blog is really about our lives and everything that comes along with it.  From decorating and shopping to travel, date nights, and saving money, I hope to write about a little bit of everything.  Writing has always been an outlet for me so I guess it doesn't even matter whether nobody reads this or a hundred do.

So now that I've changed the main purpose of the blog from savings to decorating, I thought I'd tell you about our total yearly savings for 2013.  As I've mentioned before, the hubby and I track whatever we save whether it's from coupons, discount programs, or reward sites such as MyPoints or MyCokeRewards.  Every time we save money, it goes into a spreadsheet and at the end of the month, we tally up our savings.  This year, we saved approximately $180 per month, totaling $2,161.23 for the year.  Not too shabby.

We also track any additional income we make whether it be sales from ebay, winnings from our fantasy hockey league (minus the entry fee of course), and any work we may pick up on the side.  This year, we earned about $1,800 in additional income.  It might not sound like a lot, but it just goes to show that every little bit does add up.  Typically, we take that money and put it towards a vacation or home improvement project, so it pays off.

Below is the month by month breakout of our savings and additional income.

2013 Totals

January  $          94.06  $                            52.53

March  $        120.77  $                            38.49

December  $        385.99  $                            25.54
Total  $     2,161.23  $                       1,827.82

Like I said before, it really does add up and every little bit, no matter how small, helps our bottom line at the end of the day.

Be well,
